Eden Borough

Eden Borough is a local government district in Cumbria, United Kingdom. The local council is based in Penrith. The borough is named after the River Eden, which flows north across the district towards Carlisle.

It is the largest non-unitary district and the eighth largest district in England, with an area of 2,156 kmĀ². It is the least densely populated district in England with 24 people per square kilometre.

Following the Local Government Act of 1972, the district council was formed on 1st April 1974. Part of the Lake District National Park lies within the district.

The West Coast Main Railway Line runs through the district, with the sole station based at Penrith. Services are provided by Virgin Trains. The Northern Rail Settle-Carlisle Railway also runs through the district, with stations in Appleby, Armathwaite, Langwathby, Lazonby and Kirkby Stephen.

The M6 motorway, the A6 and the A66 provide road transport links.
